The Way to Health and Vitality

It's time to start a Healthy life: Your 7 days program

How many times have you gone to sleep at night, swearing you'll go to the gym in the morning, and then changing your mind just eight hours later because when you get up, you don't feel like exercising?

While this can happen to the best of us, it doesn't mean you should drop the ball altogether when it comes to staying fit. What people need to realize is that staying active and eating right are critical for long-term health and wellness -- and that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

The more you know about how your body responds to your lifestyle choices, the better you can customize a nutrition and exercise plan that is right for you. When you eat well, increase your level of physical activity, and
exercise at the proper intensity, you are informing your body that you want to burn a substantial amount of fuel. This translates to burning fat more efficiently for energy.

In other words, proper eating habits plus exercise equals fast metabolism, which, in turn gives you more energy throughout the day and allows you to do more physical work with less effort.

The true purpose of exercise is to send a repetitive message to the body asking for improvement in metabolism, strength, aerobic capacity and overall fitness and health. Each time you exercise, your body responds by upgrading its capabilities to burn fat throughout the day and night, Exercise doesn't have to be intense to work for you, but it does need to be consistent.

I recommend engaging in regular cardiovascular exercise four times per week for 20 to 30 minutes per session, and resistance training four times per week for 20 to 25 minutes per session. This balanced approach provides a
one-two punch, incorporating aerobic exercise to burn fat and deliver more oxygen, and resistance training to increase lean body mass and burn more calories around the block.

Here's a sample exercise program that may work for you:

* Warm Up -- seven to eight minutes of light aerobic activity intended to increase blood flow and lubricate and warm-up your tendons and joints.

* Resistance Training -- Train all major muscle groups. One to two sets of each exercise. Rest 45 seconds between sets.

* Aerobic Exercise -- Pick two favorite activities, they could be jogging, rowing, biking or cross-country skiing, whatever fits your lifestyle. Perform 12 to 15 minutes of the first activity and continue with 10 minutes of the
second activity. Cool down during the last five minutes.

* Stretching -- Wrap up your exercise session by stretching, breathing deeply, relaxing and meditating.

When starting an exercise program, it is important to have realistic expectations. Depending on your initial fitness level, you should expect the following changes early on.

* From one to eight weeks -- Feel better and have more energy.

* From two to six months -- Lose size and inches while becoming leaner. Clothes begin to fit more loosely. You are gaining muscle and losing fat.

* After six months -- Start losing weight quite rapidly.

Once you make the commitment to exercise several times a week, don't stop there. You should also change your diet and/or eating habits,' says Zwiefel. Counting calories or calculating grams and percentages for certain nutrients is
impractical. Instead, I suggest these easy-to-follow guidelines:

* Eat several small meals (optimally four) and a couple of small snacks throughout the day

* Make sure every meal is balanced -- incorporate palm-sized proteins like lean meats, fish, egg whites and dairy products, fist-sized portions of complex carbohydrates like whole-wheat bread and pasta, wild rice, multigrain cereal and potatoes, and fist-sized portions of vegetable and
fruits

* Limit your fat intake to only what's necessary for adequate flavour

* Drink at least eight 8-oz. glasses of water throughout the day

* I also recommend that you take a multi-vitamin each day to ensure you are getting all the vitamins and minerals your body needs.

I suppose that's all I can think of for now. I should extend my thanks to a doctor friend of mine. Without him, I wouldn't be able to write this article, or keep my sanity.

Enjoy life, we all deserve it.

4 Easy Health and Fitness Tips

The US has seen an enormous increase in the number of people considered obese by the medical community. In fact many call it an obesity epidemic. To combat this we find all sorts of pharmaceutical companies selling the "quick fix" pills, powders, and lotions that do nothing to actually help people take the fat off and keep it off.

Of course the same could be said of the diet industry as well. There are so many different diets going around now you could pick one a month and in a years time still have more to choose from.

What is truly needed are some sensible proven weight loss tips that people can implement no matter what their present physical condition is. That said let's dive right in.

#1  Drink more water. All too often Americans are borderline dehydrated and so their bodies are working on the water starvation reflex and not flushing the toxins and junk out.

#2  Eat more often. I bet you thought I was going to say eat less. While it is true that to lose weight you need to eat less calories than you expend...you need to eat more often to get the metabolic furnace stoked up and burning right. Get it out of starvation mode. So start the day off with breakfast. Even an instant breakfast drink and a piece of fruit as we head out the door in the morning.

#3  Move more. Depending on your physical condition you need to be moving more. Use the stairs rather than the elevator, park farther out from the office or the store, go for a walk around the block, go dancing, play with your kids. Make it fun. Running is not the only way to burn more calories.

#4  Finally, determine  your "Why". Decide why you want to discard fat. Make your reason big enough to motivate you through the slumps that invariably happen.

Personally my reason was to be able to live to see my great grand kids graduate college. My youngest kids are 4 and 6 now. Besides I wanted to get out and play with them without being out of breath all the time.

Yoga is a Safe Solution to Weight Control

One more study tells the world, that Yoga can help with weight control and weight loss. The latest study was held by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington.

The study involved 15,500 healthy, middle-aged, men and women. This is a group that typically has difficulty with weight loss, since the number of calories needed declines, and the energy levels needed to burn calories, is not what it used to be.

Unfortunately, this is a fact that I have become painfully aware of during the past few years, and cutting back on food was my unwanted last option. Although, I cross train almost daily, it took me one year to lose 16 pounds of extra weight.

Back to the study: Yoga practice was defined as practicing at least 30 minutes once a week for four or more years. Comparatively speaking, this is truly “bare minimum,” and many Yoga teachers used to say that this amount of Yoga will do nothing.

How times change; Yoga has been keeping people fit for approximately 5,000 years, and its many health benefits are still a mystery worthy of more studies.

Alan R. Kristal, Dr.P.H., the study's lead author at Hutchinson Center's Public Health Sciences Division said, "Men and women who were of normal weight at age 45, and who regularly practiced Yoga, gained about three fewer pounds during that 10-year period than those who didn't practice Yoga."

Until all the studies are in, it would be safe to say that adding Yoga practice to your weekly routine, and eating wisely, will contribute to weight control or weight loss.

When seeking a Yoga teacher, find one who is compassionate, yet will encourage you to practice more frequently. The results you will gain from regular practice, of three to four Yoga classes per week, will be extraordinary, especially, if you practice Yoga for years.

Yoga is very low impact - in comparison to many aerobic exercise routines, and can be practiced for longevity. Your knees, spine, hips, and shoulders, will thank you for the condition Yoga will keep them in. Many of today’s “standard” forms of exercise do not have the same “bragging rights,” as Yoga.

With respect to eating, take the time to identify hunger and cravings. You will notice that they are not the same thing. Being a chocolate lover, it is much better to eat a piece of chocolate, now and then, than to buy a dozen chocolate donuts. This is not to justify, or surrender, to chocolate, but to eat it in moderation, and not every day.

Based upon what I have said so far, it is all about identification, control, and moderation. We have to stop “mindless eating” habits.

Recently, researchers found that women who received a 1200 mg. calcium supplement, on a daily basis, reduced their number of premenstrual food cravings by 54%.

On another note: When you have anxiety, your body produces more of the hormone cortisol, which may increase the volume of carbohydrates you eat. Carbohydrates temporarily increase our levels of serotonin, making us feel relaxed for the short term.

Learn the art of substituting foods for more nutritionally dense variations. I cover this, in detail, in my eBook, “14 Days to Change Your Life,” which will be released in August 2005.

Being in the best shape you can be is also connected to positive thinking. Therefore, use self-improvement sources to keep you on the right track toward optimum health.

No More Spare Tires!

This article will discuss strategies I use as a personal trainer to help people get rid of the spare tire around the middle that so many people desire to lose.

The first and most important part of my program is consistent, regular exercise. The primary reason people put on unwanted body fat is inactivity or too little activity, thus, course of action number one is to remedy this problem with vigorous weight training sessions and challenging cardio workouts.

I'll split up the weight training workouts, making sure to work abs and calves every day:

Monday, chest and arms, Tuesday, shoulders and back, Thursday, legs and butt Friday, chest and arms, Saturday, shoulders and back.

As you can see the whole body will be worked over the course of three workouts and this cycle will be continually repeated Cardio must be done for weight reduction programs and will be done every day weight training is done. Many things can be changed with just the addition of regular exercise, but reducing carbs will help you achieve your goals more quickly. Since we're talking about losing your spare tire, let's focus on abdominal specific exercises.

1.) hanging leg raises
2.) abdominal crunches on a machine
3.) seated trunk rotations on a machine

With regard to nutrition, I will create a totally customized plan for the individual and this program will emphasize reduced carbohydrate and fat consumption. This is a typical program I would use for a 200 lb male. The meals will be precisely three hours apart. Meal one, two full servings of oatmeal, I'll even let you add a little honey; Meal two, one grilled or steamed chicken breast accompanied by a dark, leafy salad; Meal three, eight ounces of tilapia and steamed veggies; Meal four, same as meal three; Meal five, one Muscle Milk protein drink.

If this program is diligently followed the body fat will quickly fall off and I will have a happy and successful client.

At times there are issues which must be overcome with regard to the eating plan. Difficulty keeping the client motivated to eat in a clean and healthy way often crops up. I have clients record what they actually eat and report it to me, this helps a great deal in keeping the clients compliant enough with the eating program to see optimum results. In addition, I use a number of creative, motivational techniques which can also be found in my article "Diet Doldrums." I highly advise you to read this article as well as a motivational aid.

Diet and Exercise Help In Weight Loss

Effective weight loss, the natural way is usually a product of both an adequate workout and an appropriate diet. Most people however, struggle with both and find it difficult to strike a balance between the two. Here we look at what diet and exercise can do for your weight loss and how to make it work for you.

There's nothing new about the indisputable fact that both- exercise and diet contribute to steady and near permanent weight loss- a fact as true today as it ever was. Exercise for instance, not only helps you reduce fat but can also help forecast whether your weight reduction goals will be achieved in the long run together with weight reduction maintenance. To make exercise work for you, you want to luxuriate in at least five workout sessions of 30 mins each. You may space out the amount of mins you spend exercising in a day by dividing the thirty mins into three slots of ten mins each. This may be as effective as doing the thirty mins together. This also takes away the old excuse of not having sufficient time to workout.

Ideally, find an activity which you personally love doing. Join group expeditions, ask friends to go with you for walks or give a shot to some type of special and innovative classes, like Pilates, dancing or Krav Maga. After you discover a physical activity you really enjoy, you will observe its helpful effect on your mind and body.

Coming to your diet, necessary nutrient elements along with a nutritious balanced diet are very important for your fitness. Apart from a balanced diet, you could also keep a record of your eating in a food diary. Take a note of the food eaten, the extent of hunger, the amount of food eaten, and your emotions at that time. This would help you trace any mental connections that might be present between your hunger, the food you eat and the amount of food.

Likewise, you must eat at a slow pace to dump satisfactory weight. On a standard, it takes 20 minutes of munching to send out a fullness signal to your brain. Therefore , if you can gnaw your food for roughly 20 mins, chances are that you will experience satisfaction and would not seek another helping. The number of calories you take in this 20 minute duration will also rely on how fast you finish your meals. Therefore , you just need to reduce your eating speed and relish each bite, like a true food specialist in order to shed weight.

However, when all else fails or you find that you’re terrible at keeping up with either the workout or dietary regimen you may want to consider falling back on trusted man made remedies such as the Caralluma Burn appetite suppressant- a completely natural weight loss complex which works by suppressing your appetite and helps you achieve your goal weight.
